Get involved with the Basic Healthcare Project:
On January 1, 2008, organizations involved with the Utah Poverty Partnership
launched the Basic Healthcare Project. The purpose of this project is to make
it easy for low income people and members of faith and community organizations
to participate in policy discussions about healthcare issues. The organizations
involved with the Basic Healhtcare Project believe that no Utahn should die
or suffer needless pain because they are unable to afford basic healthcare.
For these reasons organizations involved with the Utah Poverty Partnership plan to:
• Educate faith and community organizations about healthcare issues,
• Interview low income people to learn more about the impact of rising
healthcare costs on low income people,
• Organize events where low income people and members of faith and community
organizations can speak to elected officials about the importance of basic
healthcare, and
• Organize a monthly Basic Healthcare Action Step that will be promoted
on this web page and in other ways.
To receive an email informing you of the monthly action step please fill out

HEALTHCARE
ACTION STEP FOR MAY 2008
HELP INVITE GOVERNOR JON HUNTSMAN JR. TO THE MAY 28 PUBLIC
MEETING ON MEDICAL DEBT IN SALT LAKE CITY AT 6:30 PM IN THE SALT LAKE CITY
MAIN LIBRARY
A study conducted by the Anti-Hunger Action Committee shows that many low
income families have to choose between paying for healthcare and paying for
food and other basic necessities. Most of the families we interviewed have
had a healthcare bill sent to a collection agency. On May 28 we will be sharing
the results of this study at a public meeting in the Salt Lake City Library.
Governor Huntsman is leading efforts to reform Utah’s healthcare system
and so it is important that he comes to this meeting himself or sends a staff
person. Please help us invite him by sending him a letter or email asking
him to attend this important meting..
