healthcare action step - summer 2009

ASK SENATOR HATCH TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION THAT WOULD MAKE HEALTHCARE A RIGHT FOR ALL AMERICANS LIVING IN POVERTY
Utah’s Senior Senator, Orrin Hatch, has been assigned to be the lead Republican in the Senate on healthcare reform. President Obama and leading Senate Democrats have said that they want to pass a bill that would expand Medicaid to cover everyone living under the poverty level.
Of all the Utahns who do not have health insurance, 31% live under the federal poverty level. People living in poverty do not have the income or assets to be able to afford basic healthcare out of their own pockets. This inability to afford basic healthcare can be fatal.
It is estimated that three working-age Utahns die every week because they don’t have health insurance.*
