The Utah HUD Tenants Association (UHTA) was originally formed in the fall of 1997 by tenants in HUD-assisted housing in the Salt Lake valley. Originally known as the Salt Lake Area Alliance of Tenants(SLAAT), UHTA changed it's name at the end of 1999 to accomadate our mission to serve tenants across the state of Utah. UHTA is a voice for a population that is consistently overlooked and unheard. UHTA members regularly meet with their Congressional representatives and other public officials to enlist them in the struggle to save Project Based Section 8 Housing. UHTA's purpose is to empower tenants in privately owned buildings with HUD subsidies to protect their homes and prevent the loss of permanently affordable housing in Utah, while addressing issues affecting the quality of life in individual buildings.
In 1999 UHTA expanded to include 5 buildings in Weber and Davis Counties.
